India is emerging as an important market in the global artificial intelligence race, and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has urged the country to accelerate its adoption and development of AI.
Speaking on the sidelines of the G20 Innovation Ministerial, Huang said India has a strong foundation for building a domestic AI economy because of its decades-old information technology industry.
He highlighted the rapid pace of AI development and said countries need to act quickly as artificial intelligence becomes an increasingly important part of economic infrastructure.
Huang also pointed to India’s opportunity to combine its existing technology talent with growing demand for AI computing. According to him, India has the potential to develop a stronger domestic AI ecosystem rather than relying entirely on technology developed elsewhere.
At the same time, the Nvidia chief cautioned against excessive regulation that could slow innovation. He argued that policymakers need to create an environment where companies and researchers can continue developing new AI technologies while maintaining appropriate safeguards.
India has been expanding its focus on artificial intelligence, data centres and advanced computing infrastructure. Growing investment in these areas could play an important role in the country’s technology sector in the coming years.
The comments come as global competition around AI infrastructure continues to intensify, with companies investing heavily in computing power, data centres and advanced chips.
