Lucknow, September 3, 2026: Flood conditions continue to worsen in several parts of Uttar Pradesh as heavy rainfall and rising river levels disrupt normal life across the state. According to officials, 23 districts are currently affected, while more than 16,000 people have been evacuated to safer locations.
A total of 16,784 people have been evacuated, including 3,042 people who were rescued on Wednesday. Authorities have stepped up rescue and relief operations as several rivers continue to rise.
Three people have reportedly died in rain-related incidents in the state. Officials have deployed 1,499 boats and motorboats along with 1,067 medical teams to support rescue operations and provide medical assistance to affected communities.
The government has also established 1,311 flood shelters, with 201 currently operating. Relief agencies are providing food, medicines and other essential supplies to people who have been displaced by the flooding.
Several Rivers Continue to Rise
The situation remains particularly serious in areas near the Ganga, Saryu and Sharda rivers. In Ballia, rising river levels have affected around 20,500 people, while boats are being used to help with rescue and transportation.
In Pilibhit, rising water levels in the Sharda, Deoha and Khakra rivers have affected villages and roads. Authorities have advised residents living in low-lying areas to move to safer locations.
In Chitrakoot, around 150 people were rescued from Chaura village along the Mandakini River. Rescue teams are continuing to provide food, medical assistance and relief supplies to affected residents.
Relief Operations Expanded
Authorities have increased the distribution of food, medicines and other essential items across affected districts. Medical teams are also working to reduce the risk of water-borne diseases by distributing chlorine tablets and ORS packets.
Officials have urged people in vulnerable areas to remain alert and follow instructions issued by local authorities. Rescue teams, disaster-response personnel and local administrations remain deployed in several districts.
The flood situation is being closely monitored as river levels and weather conditions continue to change. Residents in affected areas have been advised to avoid flooded roads and move to designated relief centres when instructed.
